"This male romantic comedy is so dopey and idiotic".

Movie Review: That Awkward Moment.

Date Viewed: January 31 2014.

Written and Directed By Tom Gormican.

Starring: Zac Efron, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Imogen Poots, Mackenzie Davis and Jessica Lucas.

This awkward romantic comedy could've had potential not because it stars Zac Efron but it also stars two actors who are just fresh out of last year's two big Sundance hits, "The Spectacular Now" and "Fruitvale Station". Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan could have brought some juice into "That Awkward Moment" but this male romantic comedy felt like a long medicore "Two and a Half Men" episode.

"That Awkward Moment" starts with Mikey (Michael B. Jordan) going back home to his apartment to see his wife Vera (Jessica Lucas) but he is shocked when she tells him, "I want a divorce". His wife kicks him out and Mikey's two best friends Jason (Zac Efron) and Daniel (Miles Teller) make a promise to stay single with him. Despite their unbreakable friendship, Jason and Daniel break that promise as they fall in love with other women. Jason falls in love with Ellie (Imogen Poots) who at first thinks she's a prostitute and Daniel gets attracted to his wing-woman Chelsea (Mackenzie Davis).

Writer and Director Tom Gormican's film does have three attractable leads but this romantic comedy is... how can I say this awkward. Efron, Teller and Jordan play three unlikeable.

Characters and we're supposed to root for these bachelors. I laughed about six times in "That Awkward Moment" and I suppose women would enjoy this male rom-com but this R-Rated rom-com tries to be all raunchy, gooey and sentimental just like last year's atrocity "The Big Wedding".

Still trying to make the leap from "High School Musical" star to an appealing leading man, Zac Efron still hasn't found the right role for him to fit in. I like Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan but even they are not enough to save this movie. The only character I liked in this movie was Daniel's girlfriend played by Mackenzie Davis. She has wit, she's funny and her relationship between Miles Teller is full of truth but too bad that they got stuck in the wrong movie.

"That Awkward Moment" also has characters saying idiot or asshole to each other about five times. This romantic comedy is so dopey and idiotic, I was waiting for someone to give these guys a relationship guide book.
