Review of Thank You for Smoking (2005) by Mack H — 30 Mar 2010
A really challenging and risky directorial task is accomplished here with impressive results:
The controversial profile of a lobbyist is presented with intelligence, sensitivity and great sense of humor.
More importantly, the story manages to cover all aspects of the main hero's personality providing a lifelike portrait.
And just when you resorted to the idea that the story would revolve around that main character, you discover that through the basic story, other issues concerning "big businesses" are addressed with wit and sarcasm.
It's a real achievement for director Jason Reitman and lead actor Aaron Eckhart as well.
With an appropriately impressive ending to suit the inventive story, it would have made the perfect debut for Reitman.
