Review of Thank You for Smoking (2005) by Jessica G — 26 Nov 2012
Watched part of it late at night during a "homework session." It's basically the life of an executive in the smoking industry. Sad that people make a living convincing people (children!) that smoking is cool.
Shows what corporations are willing to do to make a buck... I've recently watched the rest on Netflix and here's my opinion now: Entertaining. I watched it because I was intrigued by the odd title.
It's definitely a satire, if you're wondering. Not sure if smokers would enjoy it, but I'm guessing they would get a kick out of it too. The beginning "middle" (after we got the basic plot of the movie I mean, not the actual middle) was a little dull.
But it picked up again. I did like the end too, though it's silly career choice in my opinion, some people would be very good at that kind of thing. It's almost like public relations. How to say negative things in a way that doesn't make it sound so negative.
I'm sure most people have to do that in their jobs at least a little bit and can thus relate slightly to that end. I wouldn't buy this movie, but it's a good watch.
