Review of Thank You for Smoking (2005) by Jeff G — 02 Apr 2013
This movie is terrible. It looks less like satire and more like a justification for corporate shills. Its not that I dont get the joke, its that I dont see it. Nick Naylor deservedly gets stripped naked and covered with nicotine patches and left to die in Abraham Lincoln's lap, but the plot fails after this.
Typically, Naylor justifies his lying as a kind of skill. At the end he never gets what he deserves, which is to be nailed to a stake. Instead we are supposed to walk away with an understanding that shills are good at what they do and we should respect that.
There should be no respect for liars who kill people for their own self-aggrandizement.
