Review of Thank You for Smoking (2005) by Dov D — 15 Sep 2013
In now famous director/writer Jason Reitman's filmmaking debut, he tells the story of big tobacco spokesman Nick Naylor's (played by Eckhart) journey to discovering what is really important in life.
In my opinion, Thank You For Smoking is Reitman's best film (yes, even over the wildly overrated Juno). This film highlights the inherent impulse to lie that exhists within everyone, regardless of what side they're on, and analyzes the validity of them.
Eckhart's line "if you argue correctly, you're never wrong" rings hauntingly true throughout the incredibly well written script. The acting is phenomenal and the quasi-art house direction even better.
If you're a fan of argument, you'll love this film. Bottom line, I would highly recommend Thank You For Smoking to most people, and nearly everyone I know.
