Review of Texas Killing Fields (2011) by Chris E — 05 Jan 2012
This is at best a reasonable thriller set in Texas city & the surrounding fields. But rather than either being a gritty slow burning thriller or a decent good cop/bad cop movie it turns out to be an unclear muddy affair & a good actor/bad actor movie.
The plot centres around a number of unsolved murders & a serial killer who leaves his victims in the marshes just outside Texas City. Sounder(Worthington) is relecutant to venture in & reminds his partner Heigh(Morgan) of their jurisdiction. With fellow cop Stall(Chastain) also Souder's ex-wife insisting on heigh's help the pair find themselves thrust into a hunt for the killers.
The possible killers are presented in the form of Rhino(Graham) a local, and Rule(Clarke) a visiting pimp.
However as the story progresses it'sdifficult to tell who is who & what they are doing. This is mainly down to incoherent dialogue particularly from Worthington, not surprisingly giving another bad turn, and frustratingly our own Stephen Graham.
So it just seems to lumber to an end where nobody really wins out. This could have been more like Mississipi Burning but ultimately not even a poor man's Lethal Weapon.
