Review of Tetro (2009) by Karine L — 29 Dec 2009
I dig the photography. When Coppola mocks Fellini, I dig it. The cabaret scene is awesome with the Argentinian Eddie Izzard look-alike and the striptease as well as the award scene.
I like when the author says: "I don't care about your opinion any longer" and doesn't receive the award. Coppola doesn't care about the award? Was he offended by a film critique?
The story of the movie in the movie is interesting but I reckon I had understood this Greek tragedy after an hour lenght and I wasn't very surprised by the dénouement: "the ____ is actually the ______ of the ______ ". Ok, I had guessed that.
The funeral scene is oh-so-Coppola: beautiful, solemn, and ambiguous.
The funeral gathering is very "Italianlly Coppolesk": the weight of the family, the importance of keeping up appearances, and the family secrets which are roaming around before the revenge scene.
The actors are great especially Maribel Verdu. Ehrenreich is the new DiCaprio.
