Review of Tetro (2009) by Jeff B — 25 May 2010
Beautiful photography. The rest is tiresome, pretentious, artsy-fartsy, confused, indulgent - I won't go on. Coppola's voice over commentary even more embarrassing than the movie. Echos of "Streetcar" indeed.
More like echos of the ridiculous ending to "Chinatown"; i.e. "your brother your father your brother your father". If only he'd been shot immediately after the "revelation".
Also reminded me of another quiet movie about "musical geniuses": "Five Easy Pieces" - but "Pieces" was coherent if similarly self-indulgent(e.g. mute musical genius/father figure in wheelchair).
