Review of Testament of Youth (2015) by Pankaj P — 11 Jul 2015
I have been really excited for this movie for a while due to the stellar cast and they do deliver but the hurdle is my lack of interest in period pieces. They are just soooooo slow in pacing. None the less, this movie is heightened by Alicia Vikander's great performance, she's definitely a movie star in the making after this and Ex Machina earlier this year.
Kit Harington is good but under utilized as is Taron Egerton who was a stand out earlier this year in Kingsman. Emily Watson and Dominic West are as great as usual as Alicia's parents. Like most period pieces, it has a beautiful score, great costumes, and lovely production design but the story still struggles to keep your attention for a lot of the film.
It really starts to pick up when Alicia's character joins the nursing program for the war but that doesn't happen until an hour in to the movie. Overall, it's fine but needed to work on pacing.
