Review of Testament of Youth (2015) by Late R — 17 Aug 2017

Told through the eyes of a young, strong-willed woman with a lot of prospects in life, which makes it somewhat unusual considering the majority of war dramas follow male soldiers in the trenches, this is a truly touching story whose success lies not in an action-packed and glorified portrayal of war, but rather a subtle one that is thought-provoking, heart-wrenching and poetic.

The acting from everyone involved is fantastic, but it's Alicia Vikander's understated performance as Vera Brittain, whose memoirs the movie is based on, that really sells the whole thing.
