Review of TerrorVision (1986) by Gary K — 12 May 2008
I thought this movie could have been on the same caliber as films such as "Mom and Dad save the World", "Howard the Duck" and "Super Mario Bros".
It had all the ridiculous qualities those films share.
Weird unknown actors, but a few we've seen in cheesy films before.
Strange costume and set designs, and the weirdest creatures you've ever seen.
And of course the most ridiculous musical score the film makers could find.
Except it didn't quite seem to deliver as much as those films did.
I thought this film was pretty good from the beginning, looked very campy and cheesy.
But as soon as members of the household started getting knocked off I was a little discouraged about liking the film.
The characters were so well plotted out, and had so much weird back story that it kinda sucked when they died.
Except the parents, I was waiting for them to die.. they were annoying.
I loved the punk daughters Madonna/Cyndi Lauper get up.
Whoever did the hair and make-up for her must have thought "Rainbow Brite on Crack".
It absolutely screamed 80s.
The effects were pretty good, and the creature was interesting.
It was extremely massive though, especially when they got it into full screen shots, its a wonder that thing fit into the sets.
All and all it was a pretty fun film, with a few fun gags, cameo's from weird unknowns and cheesy music.
An interesting film to be sure.
