Review of Terror Train (1980) by Michael T — 12 Sep 2010
Poor Ben Johnson; he wins an Academy Award in The Last Picture Show and less than a decase later he's in this low-budget Canadian "tax shelter" horror film. Its a bit better than some of the other films that were quickly made in the wake of Halloween (1978) and Friday the Thirteenth (1980).
The plot follows a standard "slasher movie" trope of a sadistic college prank that goes terribly wrong. Three years later, a group of pre-med students all board a vintage steam train for a New Years Eve party.
Hey, three years ago a number of these students participated in that sadistic prank (including an unwilling and unknowing Jamie Lee Curtis who is the heroine of the piece). David Copperfield shows up as a magician hired (along with a lame cover band) to provide entertainment.
Lots of people wander into darkened rooms and don't turn on a light...
