Review of Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975) by Patrick M — 09 Feb 2012
This kaiju flick, one of my all-time favorite "comfort movies", is the last Godzilla film directed by Ishiro Honda. It features an evil alien race exploiting the hubris of a mad scientist for a standard issue world domination plot.
It also highlights a goofy love story between a man and a cyborg. The real hook for this movie, of course, is the monster fights. They're peppered throughout the movie with a generosity rare in Toho's monster series.
The special effects are, as ever, a campy treat. (Love the rainbow effects on Mechagodzilla's heat ray).
