Review of Terribly Happy (2008) by Ola G — 05 Jul 2009
Robert Hansen (Jakob Cedergren) is a policeman with a troubled past in Copenhagen and is re-assigned to a remote Danish town on Jylland, where he is quickly embroiled in its odd business. Does Jorgen (Kim Bodnia), the local force to be reckoned with, actually beat his wife Ingerlise (Lene Maria Christensen)? Is that why their daughter Dorthe (Mathilde Maack) takes her doll for a walk in the evening, with the squeaky wheel heard by all in the village? And why the constant talk about the bog from the townspeople? The city has several hideous layers that Robert eventually discovers.....
I think this is an ok thriller/drama. Reasonably wellmade with solid acting. I would say that Mathilde Maack stands out with her aura as the daughter. But, I do believe that the story is missing something, that hook in the drama. Something that really grabs you. Maybe the drama and general feeling is a bit weak and not reaching the height it could have reached. It is said that "Frygtelig Lykkelig" is based on true events. Not sure about this one, this knowledge did not add anything special for me.
