Review of Terribly Happy (2008) by Joseph C — 24 Jul 2010
Hot Fuzz without the laughs. It was well acted on a poor screenplay, with lots of build up and no payoff. Because the director had influence on the novel as it was being written and wrote the screenplay at the same time, the film has that "making it up as we go along" feel.
The film suffers because the director seems more concerned about keeping the integrity of the story rather than making a good film. There are talks of an American version with Henrik Ruben Genz directing again, but I think it would be better served with a fresh narrative.
