Review of Terminator Salvation (2009) by Steve W — 04 May 2014
One hell of a thrill ride that ticks all the boxes fans have been waiting for. Fears that arose when it was announced that McG was directing are put to rest. This is a million miles from the bubblegum fun of Charlie's Angels and excess of Full Throttle, with the director nailing the nerve-wracking tone of the original classics, and successfully realising the world we've been waiting for.
Christian Bale brings the necessary stoic quality to the put-upon John Connor and Anton Yelchin is a nervy, spot-on echo of Michael Biehn. But the real star of the film is Sam Worthington. Although his American accent occasionally slips, he has enough charisma to hold the screen next to the much more experienced and intense Bale and his character's story arch is the most interesting and heartrending.
