It's not "bad" per-se, but it feels like someone mashed together a bunch of other movies and a Doctor Who episode to come up with a plot. As soon as they start talking about people being at a time nexus, and them having time travel machinery in 1984... yeah.

If this was called something else, it'd probably be easier to accept it for what it is. But, it's not. It's got "Terminator" in the name, and so much focus is spent on trying to explain what is going on that there is less time for the character interaction and development that made the franchise so good in the first place.

Rightly or wrongly, watching Genisys is mostly a reminder of just how good Terminator 1 and 2 are.

(I will also add that unlike a lot of other people, I thought Emilia Clarke did a great job. She is nowhere near the top of the list of issues here.).
