Review of Terminator Genisys (2015) by Jim222001 — 22 Jul 2015
Terminator Genisys is like the A Good Day to Die Hard of Terminator movies. It's all action and not enough brains. Which is a shame since it had some good casting. IGN said Emilia Clarke was miscast as Sarah Connor but she is perfectly tough and badass.
To me it's Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard) who was miscast as Kyle Reese. Courtney was perfect as a jerky villain in the Divergent movies. He's bland when he plays a hero though. However Schwarzenegger slips back into the Terminator role perfectly. J.K. Simmons adds good comic relief as a Detective who believes Connor and Reese's crazy stories about Armageddon and robots. While Matt Smith (Doctor Who) makes small creepy appearances as Skynet.
Despite good action the movie sort of feels like a ride to nowhere. While feeling a little way too familiar despite the story supposed to be being fresh this time around. It feels like Terminator 2 but without a solid plot.
While John Connor's wife Kate Brewster was written out completely. Hell the John Connor character even gets the short end of the stick this time around. Reese cares more than Sarah that John is a T-1000 now. But everyone shoots at him nevertheless and he's blown up multiple times. So one seems too concerned to reverse the process.
