Review of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) by Matt K — 04 Jan 2012
Since I saw terminator salvation, for some reason I was under the impression that T3 was horrible. After re watching the entire series in the past two days I realized how wrong I was. The terminator franchise has gone from typical action, to philosophical/emotional and somewhere in between.
This is the in between. T3 is a more in your face action terminator but you know what? That's why I like it. The scene in the graveyard. The scene with 16 wheeler flipping over. The final half hour.
On top of some little icings along the way, the movie never really let's up. However, this comes with a price. The story itself is there but the development is slacking. Also the story took one to many turns for my liking.
One minute theyre rescuing the father, the next he's the the key to saving the world, then he's not and it's in a bunker, then the bunker is actually just a safe haven. Two of those id be ok with.
Not all of them. I do respect director johnathan Mastow for keeping true to the grittiness of the series. The T.X punching through a cop to drive the car with the arm through his stomach was classic! Also the ending was very not hollywood which I give him kudos for.
Instead of being cliche and fixing everything he let the bombs fly. Now while this is by no means T2, it was a better than average follow up to the great James Cameron. They should have stopped here in my opinion.
