Review of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) by Mark A — 06 Feb 2018
The movie opens with an introduction to the enemy Terminator, played by Kristanna Loken, who's performance is really good; and, the characters abilities are a real standout-one of the best aspects of the movie, in fact.
It also has Arnold's intro open with an unnecessary comedy moment, which isn't the right tone for a Terminator movie, and that's where lies the issue-the tone of this movie isn't as dark or as violent as the previous movies.
There are killing scenes, however, as the movie is a 12 rating, the level of violent intensity is toned down. The battles between the two Terminators are really good, though. And, Arnold's performance is solid, even though he slightly overplays his role.
The general story flows well enough, with a good finale. I don't think that Nick Stahl or Claire Danes are strong enough actors to carry the weight of expectation; for continuity, it would have been great to see Ed Furlong back, and someone like Scarlett Johansson to play Kate.
Overall, a moderately entertaining movie, but ultimately, a letdown for big fans of The Terminator franchise.
