Review of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) by Jonny B — 05 Jun 2012
You have to feel for director Jonathan Mostow because going into this production he had the enormous expectations left from The Terminator and T2 from one of the World's greatest director's James Cameron. In comparison to Cameron's original's Mostow fails miserably but if we forget the genius work beforehand, Rise of the Machines is a pretty good action thriller.
John Connor (Nick Stahl) is now a fully grown adult who is struggling in life having lost his mother with no other family to fall back on. However, Connor's fears in T2 are resurrected once more when the machines produce a superior terminator, the TX (Kristanna Loken) to murder him before Judgement Day. Thankfully, Connor has been handed a savior (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who appears in the same form as before.
Also cast is Connor's 'future wife' Kate Brewster (Claire Danes) who has been assigned as a target from termination alongside the primary target Connor.
There isn't a whole lot of story to this action packed third outing except for the fact there is a sexy looking machine out to brutally kill you! That sexy machine (Loken) is actually excellent in her part; in action at times she looks terrifying!
Nick Stahl and Claire Danes have some chemistry on the set and Arnold Schwarzenegger is the perfect role for the originally modeled Terminator again - his quotes are legendary as always.
Still, in comparison to the first two movies, it's incredibly average; on its own though it has some very well choreographed scenes alongside some amiable performances. It's a pretty impressive flick.
