Review of Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) by Philip L — 25 Jun 2015
Back in early 1991 a teaser trailer on the Rental VHS of 'Total Recall' featured a robot being bolted together in a production line before a computer display hailed 'CYBORG TISSUE GENERATION SEQUENCE INITIATED' before doors open to reveal a naked Arnie with red eyes and the monicker 'I'll Be Back'.
What did come back wasn't really what we had before as this time 'The Terminator' was the good guy (a plot twist spoilt by later trailers) with a new bad guy, an early '90s morphing effect straight out of a Michael Jackson video called T-1000 and a now slightly insane Sarah Connor - an unrecognizable Linda Hamilton. This time Sarah Connor is not the target but her son John Connor, a wise cracking street kid. What follows is 2 and 1/2 hours of sheer rollercoaster action which only occasionally pauses for breath. This is summer blockbusters at their best - I know that because I saw it 4 times on it's release despite having a dodgy pirate too ('Erminato -Udgement Da'). 'Hasta La Vista Baby' for sure.
