Review of Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) by Owen R — 17 Feb 2015
Hasta La Vista Baby! While Terminator 2 is faster and more entertaining than the first installment, the acting is lacking (mostly John's character) and the plot is less than stellar. I suppose it didn't help that I was able to guess the ending of the film without watching it. Immediately after figuring out the Terminator was made of liquid I knew there could only be one solution. But not only that, all of the twists and turns were also predictable. To some extent Terminator 2 is just a rehashing of the original Terminator. And finally, can we talk about how terrible the young John Connor is! He's a cussing prick, for lack of a better word. He is by no means endearing, or particularly relatable, and while James Cameron tries to create a likable character by introducing character development, it just slows down the action. Unfortunately, we are unable to look past the characters continuing flaws.
Now I'm sure your wondering: Why did you give this movie four stars if you hated it so much? Well... the action is wonderful, especially in the first couple scenes. And of course the animation is bar none for the time. You can easily see where the Matrix got many of it's ideas from. It's wild to think that this film came out 7 years after the first one and the actors still have their youthful charm. So until next time, Hasta la vista Baby.
