Review of Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny (2006) by Mark B — 25 Mar 2010
Ummm...I'm a huge Tenacious D fan, but this...this deserved to flop as badly as it did. Comedically tone-deaf and totally uninspired as compared to their stellar HBO series. I have no idea what went wrong in the creative process, but seriously, nothing went right.
I think maybe they were going for a Cheech & Chong vibe, but "Pick Of Destiny" shows quite clearly that especially "Up In Smoke" and "Next Movie" were no flukes and despite being "stoner" movies, are actually well-crafted comedies.
