Review of Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny (2006) by Keith M — 25 Jul 2010
I know this movie doesn't deserve 80% if you want to analyze it, but for God's sake, PLEASE don't. If you try and find hidden meanings, you're going to be disappointed, because you have to realize something.
This is a stoner comedy that is nothing but people getting high, acting stupid, playing music, and cracking jokes. However, it's top notch stoner comedy, and I can appreciate that. In fact, this is probably one of my favorite comedies of all time, mainly because it doesn't overcomplicate itself like SO many other movies out there do.
I'm gonna be honest here and admit this: I've literally seen this movie around 10-12 times now, and I'm not ashamed. The replay value (mainly because like I said, it's a stoner comedy, and they never get old because it's not JUST jokes that get worn out.
It's actions and other gestures that you pick up on each time you watch and crack up over) is incredible, and sorry for that obnoxiously long parenthetical statement, I just felt it needed to be said.
Anyway, to conclude: Tenacious D In The Pick of Destiny is a huge classic in my book. I proudly own the DVD and watch it quite often. Jack Black and Kyle Gass are a wildly hilarious duo that deserve all of the praise they receive.
I say bravo to this movie that doesn't take itself too seriously and stays simple to the core.
