Review of Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny (2006) by Matthew M — 18 Sep 2011
It may not be everyone's thing - the humour is pretty lowbrow, the jokes are dependent on the viewer having some prior knowledge of Tenacious D, and the plot is virtually nonexistent - but, for anyone willing to sit through the whole running time, "The Pick of Destiny" is a funny and provacative look at the "beginnings" of the band, and Jack Black remains his brilliant, bumbling and charasmatic self, just this time with more swearing.
The soundtrack is excellent, with the band's music being incorporated well into the plot and action of the movie, and Lynch allows free reign to both leads in an attempt to create some genius comedy, which both hits and misses depending on your sensibilities.
