Review of Temple Grandin (2010) by Jacek K — 05 Feb 2011
Films centering on a subject such as autism tend to focus more on the subject at hand than the characters. But make no mistake, Temple Grandin is not a film about autism per se, but a character with autism, and Claire Danes steps up to the plate and delivers in her portrayal of Grandin.
The film is a tad long, and the plot is a little too a-typical and family friendly, but I enjoyed it, and I was especially pleased with the presentation of the protagonist. She was easy to relate to and easy to understand, always a difficult task when presenting someone who thinks inherently different than one's self.
And kudos to the real Temple Grandin, someone who didn't let others' prejudices and her own differences keep her from living life the way she wanted to - we could all take a lesson away from that.
