Review of Temple Grandin (2010) by Valerie P — 09 Apr 2011
This movie is expertly done. It's the best representation I've seen on film of an autistic person, and it's a true story. Claire Danes' performance is extraordinary. I have always respected her as an actress, and this role really brings the point home.
Temple was very fond of animals and spent a lot of time on her aunt's ranch. Highly intelligent, she also went to college and excelled in sciene, moving on to a degree in animal husbandry. Temple became aware of the distress cattle went through while on their way to slaughter or innoculations.
She saw animals drowning in the dip bath or dying during stampedes. Determined to ease their suffering and make their last moments of life as comfortable as possible, Temple used her unique viewpoints to create a more humane way for cattle to be processed.
This method is used the world over today.
