Review of Tell No One (2006) by Amy S — 11 Nov 2010
Tell No One is a very French Hitchcock film. The wrong man here is a kindly doctor, pursued for the murder of his wife after an 8 year gap. Trouble is, it violates the basic convention of thrillers, which makes it very un-Hollywood, and ladles on the complications till you wish he DID kill her! Most of the embellishments are totally unnecessary to the plot (why is his sister 'married' to lesbian Kristen Scott Thomas?)and the whole thing spins out of control in the final act.
The central performance gives the film it's gravitas, and it manages to be highly entertaining throughout. You will feel bewildered like the hero, no bad thing. But as Gertrude Stein said of LA, 'when you get there, there's no there, there.
