Review of Tekken (2010) by Stevens L — 05 Aug 2010
Upon watching the trailer for this movie some months back, I had been looking forward to the release.
Ok so it's not going to win any awards for best film or acting etc, it is however a fun movie to watch and if you like fighting films such as Mortal Kombat or Street-Fighter then you will love this film, The storyline isn't too great but it holds together well enough to make the movie a little bit more than 'just a fighting film'.
The story is about a young man from the slums called Yin Kazama (Jon Foo) who wants to enter the Tekken tournament to try and get close to the man who is responsible for the death of many people in his town, including the death of his mother. So it's a very simple story line, with some minor twists towards the end of the movie. But thats what I like about it...Fast, Fun and not to tied down by some long story.
If you are a fan of the video game, then you may pick out many flaws in this movie, I have read many reviews that have said the film is "rubbish" and "un-entertaining" simply because it is not in sync with the game. But, I am not a big fan of the game, and I am just reviewing the movie as I see it...It's definitely worth watching and the fight scenes are excellent and a little more realistic than those you would see in Mortal Kombat.
On the whole, this movie is an entertaining watch, I think it could have been done a little better and they do leave many things up to you, the viewer to figure out for yourself.
But then again, it's a movie about fighting and it goes on for an hour and a half as it is, so what you have to ask yourself is...Do I want to know all the history of the characters and the reason all the towns are at war? And my answer is, 'No, Because when I watch a high octane fighting film, I don't want it to go on for three hours, I want to get in to it, enjoy it and get the blood flowing and get out.'.
And this film, done just that!
