Review of Tekken (2010) by Jarrett M — 15 Aug 2011
As a fan of the games, I had wanted this to be good. Or at least halfway decent. I'm not even sure I can say that the film accomplished that much. From wooden acting to a cliched script to less than exciting fight scenes to the complete butchering of the game's story and characters, there is not a lot to like here.
However, this is far from the worst movie I've seen, and it is not even the worst video game adaptation I have seen. The story, while being derivative of most action films, does move along at a brisk pace and the fights are shot sensibly enough to allow the viewer to follow what is happening to who; something of a rarity in movies these days.
Certainly nothing exceptional here, but a mildly entertaining action flick. Fans of the game may enjoy seeing familiar names on the screen, but I think a casual viewer will not find too much to like.
