Review of Teeth (2000) by Jennifer M — 28 May 2011
Dawn O'Keefe (Jess Weixler) has a secret. A secret which is only revealed to the select few who wish to prey on her innocence. Vagina dentata or toothed vagina only appears in myth's that she's read, but after her experiences with the opposite sex, she finds out that the myth is a reality, Quite possibly one of the most original ideas for a film to date, Teeth offers a reverse of roles of sorts.
Jess Weixler is a shining star to look out for and she proves it with her fearless performance as Dawn, the secret "member" killer. From the start, we see her innocence burn as she is taken advantaged of from all angles, but she soon starts to use her secret as a weapon.
The effects of the severing were nicely done and cringe-worthy to the male audience, I know I felt it. I somehow knew what was going to happen, but I could not help but keep watching. The film does invite some entertainment value and a few laughs, considering it's heavy-handed subject matter on rape.
But my sense of humor was towards the severing of "body parts", which were being bitten and spit out every chance the opportunity came along. Yes, the victim's of Dawn's tooth vagina deserved everything that came to them, giving new meaning to the phrase, "a little teeth".
