Review of Tees Maar Khan (2010) by Lalatendu S — 27 Dec 2010
Farah Khan, an established director whom you can depend on for a good hit movive.....Akshay Kumar, a very mediocre actor who hasnt really had a solo hit in ages and whom you can depend on for overacting and hamming and making a film flop......when they come together, you have to wonder who's gonna come out on top.
Well, luckily, this time round, I would say that Farah Khan has the upper hand!!!
This movie is actually all about spoofing older movies, and its good fun to see if you can spot the spoofs. The gags come along fast and they are truly funny. Never mind the story, thats inconsequential. Spoofs on Shahrukh Khan, Rang De Basanti, Slumdog to name afew, are well done and the pace of the movie doesn't really flag much at all.
Akshaye Khanna is excellent in his role as the Oscar obsessed lead actor (shades of Shahrukh Khan in there) and Katrina Kaif is outstanding in her role as the clueless wannabe actress. Her overacting (intentional) is excellently done and some of the dialogue she comes up with is genuinely funny. The less said about Akshay Kumar, the better. Bufoonery can only get you so far Mr Kumar, so you need to rethink you strategy very seriously.
The music is good, not to the standard set by Main Hoon Na or Om Shanti Om, but not bad either. Sunidhi Chauhan is excellent in Sheila Ki Jawaani (Katrina Kaif needs to introduction for this, and an praise for her moves would be stating the obvious!!). In the Munni v/s Sheila battle, I would say that Munni wins on the radio, but Sheila wins on video ;-).
Now, to go or not to go, that is the question.
Well, I say, go. Make sure you leave your analytical mind at home and just enjoy this one for what it so unashamedly is, a typical masala entertainer with no pretence to be the next Gone With The Wind.
Enjoy, I know I did, especially the salted popcorn ;-).
