Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016) by Keegan F — 12 Jun 2016
I have to say, I really loved this new Ninja Turtles movie. I'm not sure what's up with all the low ratings. I give it 5 stars.
All the classic things from the cartoons are back. The turtle van throwing manholes, the Shredder working for Krang (disgusting yet hilarious), Bebop and Rocksteady (nailed their characters, and so cool to see their origins), the portal to another dimension, and Casey Jones (who was stinking awesome with his hockey skills). I think any fan of the cartoons will love this film.
I think the only problem is that it feels like April O'Neil is missing. Even though Megan Fox plays April O'Neil, she's not convincing. Not that she's unlikable or bad at acting. No, she's great. She's beautiful. She's entertaining. She's a good actress. She's one of the highlights of the film actually. She's just not a convincing April. It's as if the classic Ninja Turtles are back, but April O'Neal died and Megan Fox took her place.
It still makes for a great film, so I'm not complaining. It's just not April. Megan looks and acts more like a high school cheerleader, and not a professional news reporter. Besides, in the cartoons April had red hair. I think someone like Amy Adams would have filled her shoes better. That's who I would have chosen for the role.
But anyway, it was a great film. It brings back a lot of memories for people who watched the cartoons as kids, played the video games, or played with the action figures.
