Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (1991) by Steven L — 17 Nov 2011

After the breakout success of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, they were eager to get a sequel into production. While still a good film, it lost a bit of its edge. Many parents complained about the violence in the first film, and as such; the Turtles don't use their weapons as often.

Instead, they use neckties, foam bats, and sausages in fights; which are actually a lot easier to come by than katana blades, sai daggers, and nunchaku. Shredder has returned, and opts to create his own mutants to battle the Ninja Turtles.

He does this by stealing some of the ooze that mutated the turtles, and creates them. Many expected the mutants to be Bebop and Rocksteady, but two new characters called Tokka, a snapping turtle, and Rahzar, a wolf, were made instead.

One of the most noteworthy scenes in this movie is when the Turtles fight in a club where Vanilla Ice is playing, and spontaneously comes up with a rap song about them. Shredder then drinks the last bit of ooze and mutates himself into a Super Shredder.

Then, he kills himself by ripping apart the dock and it collapses on top him (as opposed to surviving falling off a building and being compacted in a trash truck). Even so, the film was another big hit, and there was another film that I will cover next time that makes my blood boil, and my skin crawl.
