Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) by Mitch L — 05 Apr 2015
The Good:
Surprisingly not as BAD as I expected, nor as awful as how the media has been downplaying it. Fun action sequences, especially the snow mountain scene. The characterization of the 4 Turtles is done right. Megan Fox as April O'Neil works and is surprisingly really good. Shredder is a wonderful and menacing villain, eventhough he looks a lot like a Decepticon (Megatron in particular).
The Not-so-Good:
The focus should've been more towards the Turtles, rather than the human characters. Cheesy and silly origin story, with questionable plotholes in the bigger story as well, makes the whole experience as 'just okay'. Character designs could've been less hideous, especially Splinter's. Many jokes don't work, especially the suggestive ones are rather inappropriate for the intended audience. Will Arnett is severely underused. Too much Michael Bay's signature, eventhough he's not the one directing.
