Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) by Udrayana P — 11 Feb 2015
Utterly goofy, but then so was the original 1990 movie that so many are remembering though their rose-colored nostalgia glasses. On the negative side are the silly, contrived plot and ridiculous performances. Also Shredder looks like a robot monstrosity brissling with blades that shoot out and, apparently, magnitize back to his hands, I can't help but feel that Freddy would have to be jelous of Shredders update. And it's very cool looking but when he would fight Splinter and the Turtles I just can't get over the thought of how little actual cutting and stabbing he does with all his blades. I get that it's for kids and you can have our beloved characters slashed and skewered *too* much, but then don't make him look so incredibly lethal.
On the plus side while the characters are over the top silly, they still nailed the interplay of the 4 brother Turtles and their master Splinter. A lot of fun, if very silly action sequences and set pieces and a real achievement of the CGI Turtles that to feel so weighty and solid the illusion of their whole existence is sold completely. A fun if ludicrous movie.
