Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) by Jerry C — 25 Mar 2015
I had trouble getting engaged with this big budget adaptation of the Ninja Turtles. The tone is all over the place, and the movie is at its best when the Turtles are just being the funny Turtles. I think the CGI of the turtles is very detailed, but I never believed them as anything more than cartoons, which would be fine if the film wasn't live action.
Shredder was lame and was barely the villain. The Foot Clan as gun wielding terroists is a lot less fun than a group of ninjas...and tonally it feels wrong for a fun adventure movie for kids. Megan Fox is really awful, badly cast, I never once believed she was a tenacious reporter.
The plot of the turtles being her pets was too convenient a plot point, and not necessary. Overall I just never got interested or engaged in this mostly generic summer movie.
