Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) by Edwardo H — 28 Mar 2015
This is one case where I'm sorry I listened to the negative hype. The danger of rebooting an old franchise- especially a comic book franchise- is that the reaction you typically get from long term fans is, "How dare you invade the world I created for myself when my childhood and teenage years made me want to run from the world? If this doesn't match exactly the scenario I created in my mind for THESE characters and THIS story, I will hate the movie and you forever.
" Although I didn't like the last two Transformers movies, I enjoyed this movie quite a bit! I think Bay actually listened to one or two of the people who slammed him for making movies out of explosions, and tried to give more character to each of the main players.
I don't need all my movies to feature dark, gritty, tortured souls fighting impossible odds, but I also don't want my movies to be a long, long series of explosions. I think TMNT struck a happy medium.
Megan Fox also surprised me- she was way better than I expected. I'll be in the theater for the next one, for sure!
