Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) by Chris B — 29 May 2016
Having seen the trailer I was under the impression that this film had been directed by Michael Bay so it did come as a shock at the end when it turned out he was just a producer. That being said his fingerprints are all over it from gratuitous action and explosions to Megan Fox being objectified.
Some of the action is enjoyable and is much easier to follow than in the Transformers films but it all seems a bit rushed. At 90 minutes I never really felt like I knew much about the Turtles as characters with each only having a little bit of 'development'.
Reading trivia about the film afterwards it seemed that the crew spent more time developing little details than ensuring that these details shone through in the final product. I also never really picked up which turtle was which and still could only tell you which one is Donatello.
All in all the film did keep my attention but afterwards I didn't really feel that I had enjoyed it or hated it, it was just on.
