Review of Teen Titans Go! To the Movies (2018) by Kyle H — 27 Jul 2018
Teen Titans Go to the Movies is an array of touching story meddled with unfortunately brutally mean, gross, or downright uncalled for jokes.
While I really liked how the writers made Robin's struggle to be seen as a serious superhero something I wanted to see his satisfaction in, I thought Slade's (spoilers) alter ego was poorly thought of, and I could only take him half seriously.
When I think about it, I enjoyed this movie by only half. Every time some nice dialogue pulled me into the characters motivations, I get disgusted or annoyed by the original shows' sense of humor. One joke in particular involved making sure the DC heroes never became superheroes, but the titans decided later to reverse this. I know some people enjoy dark humor, but seeing Robin, Batman's apprentice, push Bruce Wayne's parents into an alleyway to get shot is just too unsettling, and ruined the mood way too much.
I believe this movie had potential, because I know I enjoyed a lot of it. If the body humor and cruelty of the titans was cut down by 50-75%, I think this would be a solid superhero movie for the family to enjoy.
I rate this movie solely by itself and not by the Go! Show. THAT I hate.
P.S. the marvel jokes were just pushing it. Get Stan lee out of there.
