Review of Teen Titans Go! To the Movies (2018) by Jon C — 29 Jul 2018
As you would expect this is very much an extended TV episode of the hit show.
But that doesnt mean it isnt enjoyable or funny.
The Teen Titans make their big screen debut, funny enough they want a movie about them since every other superhero is getting the cinematic experience.
Robin, Beast Boy, Starfire, Raven, and Cyborg want to be looked at as real heroes and not jokes.
Robin in particular wants to be known more than just a sidekick so he gets the idea that if they can fight an ultimate arch enemy they'll get the spotlight.
The villain Slade shows up for a nefarious scheme to mind control everyone so the Titans figure this is their ultimate challenge.
Yet even Slade doesnt take them seriously as superheroes.
Robin even gets sidetracked almost leaving his teammates behind just to be famous.
We've seen this stuff over and over again but the script is actually more intelligent than you might think; there's dozens of other DC comic book characters in the background making this whole thing so surreal, an obligatory cameo, and tons of silly, inside jokes.
It's short, sweet, action-filled, and does tell you being super doesnt make you heroic.
Being your true self is enough.
Everything you love and laughed about the show is all here in all it's colorful, random glory.
But where does that mid credits scene leave us? only time will tell...
