Review of Ted (2012) by Miles W — 16 Feb 2014
For any fans of Seth MacFarlane's sense of humor, it's virtually impossible for you not to enjoy Ted. As a Family Guy fan myself, I found it to be consistently funny from start to finish filled with all of the typical Seth MacFarlane trademarks that I've grown to love. Among all of the raunchy fart and dick jokes, the movie surprisingly has quite a bit of heart to it. Though you're constantly aware that Ted is entirely CG, after a while you stop thinking about him as just a CG teddy bear with the voice of Peter Griffin and start seeing him as an actual character. The relationship between John (Mark Wahlberg) and Ted is charming and believable which is the main reason why this movie works as well as it does.
Though there are many times when the movie divulges into the typical tropes of romance films and comedies, and there are a lot of inappropriate jokes placed at inopportune moments, Ted is still a hilarious, heartfelt, and wonderful comedy. For those who despise MacFarlane's style of humor, they most likely will not enjoy Ted, but even for those who are indifferent to him, I have a feeling that they quite possibly could be entertained by this film.
