Review of Ted (2012) by Maymay A — 12 Jan 2016
So I really liked this. When I first saw trailers and such for Ted, I was expecting some kind of schlocky Family Guy re-used jokes marathon, but it did indeed turn out to be a raunchy buddy story that didn't always make the obvious jokes.
Yes, it sometimes laid back on the old culture references and random cutaways, but generally the movie was about Mark Wahlberg and Ted and their relationship and keeping it afloat now that they're both adults.
I think the really convincing thing that really pulled me into the film is that this was generally pretty realistic - the way this story plays out is pretty much how it would go if a guy had some kind of untraditional best friend/little brother and they both relied on each other for companionship since childhood. It's the same ole kicking a baby out of the nest trope, but with such a different spin on it, it really worked for me.
I was inspired by the trailers for Ted 2 to get after it so I could see the new one in theaters (which I still haven't), but it's super super on my list now!
