Review of Ted (2012) by Elijah C — 30 Jun 2015
One of my favorite comedies for the past 5 years. I have to say "Ted" is one movie that I can always watch anytime and anywhere and never fails to disappoint through the laugh factor. The movie has so many smart comedic elements that fit in with perfect timing on jokes.
This rated-R comedy does have good developed characters. And an original plot that fits into the film. Even though towards the third act the movie starts to change into a soap opera rom com that id distracting.
"Ted" has emotional tones but hits hard 50% of the time. Mixing in good acting and great chemistry towards characters. You see the film grow into something more than a straight up comedy. The movie also follows a lot of hidden themes of growing up and being who you are as a person.
Yeah that is overshadowed by the generic buddy comedy but is replaced by a wise cracking ignorant teddy bear. Ted is the highlight of course in this movie with his 90% accuracy on jokes and fast delivery.
He is definitely why this film stays a float. And I have to say with great use of direction towards Seth Macfarlane part, it was really done in a unique and stylistic way. There are some big misses in comedic chops especially towards the third act of course.
The movie was way too long and should have ended about 15 minutes before. Towards the end the movie takes a turn that I am not a big fan of and it takes up about 25 minutes of the film. Felt bland towards the end and dried up with pathetic throw away jokes.
With a original way of telling a story Seth Macfarlane holds an good comedy that will stick with people for years to come. The movie shows us a new way in comedy when it comes to originality and crudeness.
Overall, I will give "Ted" an A- grading!
