Review of Ted (2012) by Nick A — 22 Apr 2016
Ted was a surprise for me. If you currently are a fan of or were a fan of Family Guy then this humor is reminiscent of that. Perhaps more in line with Family Guy's earlier seasons than it's current form.
Like Family Guy, Ted seems much more interested in telling jokes than a story. Which is fine. But I could have used a little more depth. Especially when the movie attempts to be more emotional. It just doesn't work then mainly because the movie is too busy telling its jokes instead of building character.
That said, the jokes in there work. They work really well. There's running gags involving cameos that are some of the funniest I've seen in a while. Ultimately, Ted is a fun movie. It's not a great movie.
It's good and it's fun. The hit or miss humor of Family Guy is there. But unlike Family Guy when Ted gets it right it knocks it out of the park. It's nice to see a somewhat original film making a splash at the box office today.
