Review of Ted 2 (2015) by Christopher P — 07 Nov 2015
Not quite as inspired as the original but stands on its own. Macfarlane does not rest on his laurels and rely on his past success to skate by. He puts work into the story and the jokes and boldly makes this installment a new take on the narrative.
This time the dramatic arc focuses more on Ted and not john. The story is mostly about Ted and his legal battle to be considered human. This could've easily been a retred of the first with the storyline focusing on john fighting with Laurie about him being closer to Ted than her, but Laurie is not even in this one.
Her and john are divorced, which is a downer, but it makes sense because the first one ended with john not really changing his behavior, just Laurie giving up on her complaining. Not a good foundation for the subsequent marriage.
I have much love for the original but that aspect always bothered me. This new go round redeems it by giving john another love interest who's more suited to him played by the lovely Amanda seyfried.
She's a pothead too! Perfect! Hilarious appearances by Morgan freeman, Tom Brady, and giovanni ribisi also make for a good time.
