Review of Tears of the Sun (2003) by Darcy M — 10 Feb 2009
This is a deeply emotional action-drama that really shows the ugly side of war and horrible situation in Africa. Director Antoine Fuqua is clearly more interested in the human side of the story and makes the viewer really care about the characters.
This wonderful film may seem like your standard action-flick, but instead it is more a journey into the heart of darkness. There are no overly sentimental scenes or cheesy oneliners, just the brutal in your face statement of the messy side of the condition of the world we live in.
Tears of the Sun is also technically pure perfection. Photography by by great Mauro Fiore uses the landscape to a almost hypnotic effect and Hans Zimmer does one of his best works in musical department.
This is in my opinion a very well made film and the best film that director Antoine Fuqua has made so far.
