Review of Tears of the Sun (2003) by Hank V — 04 Sep 2010
Some would watch this just for the shoot-em-up war scenes. I would rather just bypass those for the most part. But the story itself was much better than I expected. But the atrocities portrayed are difficult to watch, difficult to swallow. Ethnic cleansing. Enough said.
Now that I've identified the unpleasant parts, really I thought this was a good tense flick. I do tend to like Bruce Willis usually, and he did a good job in this one. There's an unsettling contrast in the movie. On the one hand, we see the gorgeous natural beauty of Africa and many of its people. But then we see the unbelievably despicable actions that took place during ethnic cleansing.
