Review of Tears of the Sun (2003) by Eric V — 20 Oct 2011
I do enjoy Tears of the Sun for being a stern and solid action piece. There are problems with the plot and story, but overall I like this film above a lot of others. The war violence is brutal and exciting to witness under the circumstances the characters find themselves in within the story.
Fuqua doesn't necessarily capture greatness but he does a great job at staging, creating, and shooting war. Bruce Willis is very restrained in this role - it's a different kind of action role for him.
He's quiet and emotionless. So in the end it has great action, decent performance, and it looks very pretty.
